Malcolm Jefferson looks poised to enjoy a field day at Hexham tomorrow.

After four days' high-class Flat racing at Doncaster, culminating in today's St Leger, the final Classic of the season, it is the turn of National Hunt enthusiasts to get their share of the action tomorrow when two of the three fixtures are over jumps.

Norton-based Jefferson looks the man to follow in Northumberland.

He has a whole host of fancied runners throughout the day, including Rutledge Red, who will be particularly hard to beat in the Kerr McGee Novices' Hurdle.

A runaway winner at Market Rasen a fortnight ago, the promising six-year-old can follow-up under a penalty here in the hands of Graham Lee.

Jefferson and Lee have several other good chances during the afternoon. Recent winner Border Star should give them a big say in the Prince's Trust Novices' Handi-cap Hurdle, while Pertino, decent over hurdles, should go well in the Prince's Trust Novices' Chase.

The lightly-raced Great Oaks (3-25) and the promising Cumbrian Knight (5-35) bolster the chances of Jefferson and Lee dominating the Hexham programme.

Tony McCoy will be the star attraction at Worcester, and Dance In Tune can carry the record-breaking champion jockey to victory in the League of Friends of Rose Hill Special School Handicap Hurdle.

The five-year-old, trained by Philip Hobbs, has won both his starts to date.

Also worth noting are the consistent Mr Woodland (3-35) and the unbeaten Dusty Too (5-15).

On the Flat at Sandown, John O'Groats makes plenty of appeal in the Raynes Park Classified Stakes as he bids to make his trip from Michael Dods' Darlington stable worthwhile.

Jimmy Fortune's mount has been running up to his best in defeat lately and finished a good fourth in a hot handicap at Haydock last Saturday. He is awarded the nap.

Fortune can also hit the target on Shaiyzima, who bids for a hat-trick of wins in the Telford Homes Showcase Handicap. The three-year-old represents Sir Michael Stoute, who was set to be triple-handed in today's St Leger.

Peter Makin has a useful bunch of juveniles this season and hopes are high that Perfect Setting will make a winning debut in the Euro-pean Breeders' Fund Maiden Stakes. The rumours are Perfect Setting is on a par with stablemates Queensway Quay and Dust Cover, who had debut wins recently.
