YORK Acorn runner Helen Southall won the women's title in the inaugural White Rose 10k Road Race held at Wigginton in a time of 42 minutes 43 seconds.

Mark Dowson for the Acorn club was second in 36-28, just behind winner Geoff Hall (35-17).

The race, organised by York's White Rose Triathlon Club, ran alongside their run-cycle-run duathlon in which Acorn's Paul Mangan finished seventh in two hours 22mins 22secs.

Acorn's Andy Normandale finished an excellent summer Cleveland Fell Race series by winning the veteran category.

Normandale clinched the title by overtaking Peter Buckby of Middlesbrough in the last race, held over seven miles in the hills above Guisborough. Normandale's eighth place in 42-02 was part of an excellent team performance which earned Acorn second on the night, with Mike Hetherton's 19th place (47-16) gaining the second Over-50 category prize for the season.

Acorn's Andy Burt was fourth (39-52) and Phil Paxman was 24th (47-53) to make up the team, with other Acorn finishers being David Hetherton in 45th (56-04), Ian Wilcock in 49th (56-51) and Geoff Binns in 60th (62-34).
