IF the people of York are expected to finance running of the proposed "railway links" we will end up with the highest council tax in the country.
Does anyone seriously believe people at Wigginton, Haxby etc will get in a car to go to a station to get on a train to York Station, then catch another bus to get to work?
Haxby, Strensall, Copmanthorpe etc all had stations which were closed because of lack of use, there was even a halt at Rowntree's. But, despite being actually in the works, it too closed because of lack of use.
Let's hope we are spared this unnecessary expenditure. A properly-run bus service is far more flexible and convenient. By all means try to reduce car use in the city, but rail links won't do this.
