I WAS delighted to read Paul Kirkwood's latest cycle ride article which took readers along Sustrans route 65 from York, via Beningborough Hall estate (September 7).

My wife and I often use this route, as part of a local circular ride. Beyond Linton, we cross the Ouse at Aldwarke Toll Bridge, returning to York via Whixley, Tockwith and Long Marston.

From the latter, the road via Angram and Askham Richard is a quieter alternative to the B1224.

At Beningborough, route 65 is signed via the minor public road, which parallels the Hall estate's boundary, to Newton-on-Ouse.

When the hall is open, be aware that its internal road is partly signed on a one-way basis for motor vehicle visitors.

The hall has a superb caf and relaxing gardens. Another favourite cyclists stop, is Linton Lock's pub and caf, just off route 65 a little further north.
