I read with amazement two articles which were printed four pages apart in the Evening Press on September 26.

In one story a motorist killed a motorcyclist through an act of careless driving and was fined £150 plus six penalty points on his driving license. In the second, a motorist damaged a parked car, was also convicted of careless driving but was given a larger fine of £200 plus six penalty points.

This suggests we place a greater value on repairable damage to property than we do to a human life.
