A NINE-YEAR-OLD North Yorkshire girl is set to dance her way to a national ballroom dancing competition.
Karen Garbett, who celebrates her tenth birthday tomorrow, won the ballroom dancing section for nine to 12-year-olds in a contest this week.
After winning the competition, which was held in Scarborough, she goes on to represent the North-East in the nationwide finals in Blackpool in April.
Karen, of Saunters Way, Riccall, has been dancing since she was three.
Her mother, Heather said: "I was in tears when she won, but she just takes it all in her stride. I'm very proud of her." She said that Karen had followed in the footsteps of her eldest daughter, Louise, 22, who also dances.
Earlier this year, she also qualified for the finals in modern sequence dancing when she achieved fourth place in the regional competition. The national finals for modern sequence dancing, which involve dancers of all ages, take place this month at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
