Wigginton ace Neil Cordell has added to his growing reputation after capturing the Yorkshire County Closed Championships Under-15s title over the weekend.

Cordell, who won the British U13s crown last year, showed no fear in his leap up in age groups to dominate the competition at Hull.

The talented 13-year-old did not drop a set over the weekend after starting with comfortable victories on the opening day.

In the semi-final, Cordell enjoyed a 3-0 victory over fellow Yorkshire player James Rushton (Pontefract) to set up a final clash against another member of the Ponte' club, Adam Taylor.

Cordell took the first set against the 14-year-old 9-5 and then came from 7-3 down to win the second. The third was over very quickly as Cordell wrapped up the title.

Neil's sister Kathryn almost made it a family double but she went down 10-9 7-9 9-7 8-10 9-3 in the Girls' U17s final against Fiona Moverley (Hull and ER), with the match lasting over an hour.

In the boys' U11s event, York youngsters filled three of the top six places. Jack Unsworth (Wiggington) was narrowly beaten by George Wilman (Pontefract) in the final, while Sam Burton (York) was fifth and Will Bailey (Wigginton) came sixth.

In the U13s, Chris Rusling (York RI) made it through to the final but was toppled by Sam Wilman (Pontefract), while Tom Pepper (Wigginton) managed to improve his ranking from ninth to fifth.

The efforts of coaches Steve Hodgson (York), Rod Erridge (York RI) and Nick Clifford (Wigginton) are resulting in children from the area becoming a force on the county and national stage.
