WHETHER or not some people find the presence of tills at the entrance to York Minster off-putting, or intimidating, or the whole process "distasteful", nowhere in Mike Laycock's report is the word "bullies" used, so including it in the headline is misleading and mischievous in its implication that Minster staff are bullies.

As a member of the staff working on a donations till, I wish to point out to whoever wrote that headline, (September 21), nothing could be further from the truth.

Staff at the door and on the donation tills do their best to be friendly and every visitor who approaches the tills (and many do not), are informed that it is only a donation that is asked for and not a payment, and that they are free to give as much or as little as they wish.

Most people who come to the tills are perfectly happy to give the suggested donation and many give more than is suggested.

Just as many walk past the tills and give nothing - as has always happened

No bullying whatsoever is involved.

Mrs L Woodfield,

Railway Terrace, York.
