YOUR reporter Richard Edwards has got hold of entirely 'the wrong end of the stick' in your front page article 'Bus axe blow to cancer patient' and the page five article 'Pensioner blasts crazy timetables' (September 28).
The service referred to in the article, the No. 27, was already a tendered service, operated by First on behalf of City of York Council.
Because we were unable to sustain the 17 between Skelton and York on a commercial basis, City of York Council altered its tender specification for the 27 so that it no longer operated via Clifton Moor, on the basis that the new No. 6 service would provide the link between the city and Clifton Moor via the hospital.
It is a great pity Councillor Waudby did not check his facts before he was so liberal with his quotes about how badly First had let down the community.
It beggars belief that he did not check with his own officers beforehand!
Peter Edwards,
Commercial Manager, First,
James Street, York.
