YORK City reserves romped to a superb 7-0 home win over Grimsby Town at Bootham Crescent to maintain top spot in the Avon Insurance League division one (east) table, writes Dave Stanford.

New signing Lee Cook got a 45 minute run-out and capped his debut with a superb free-kick as well as catching the eye with his electric pace.

Fellow winger Nicolas Mazzina opened the scoring for City on 17 minutes before Cook gave City a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Grimsby, who featured George Santos and Jamie Pollock, were forced to change their 'keeper just before half-time with Shaun Allaway, on loan from Leeds United, limping from the fray.

With no back-up shot-stopper, the Mariners were forced to play rookie outfield player Kirk Wheeler in goal.

However, Wheeler could not be faulted for any of City's remaining goals as the Minstermen ran riot after the break.

Levent Yalcin got his name on the scoresheet before Craig Wilding scored twice and Brazilian striker Rogerio also bagged a late double.
