NURSERY children are at the "centre" of a York school's teaching now it has opened a new £380,000 building.
The Lord Mayor of York, Coun David Horton, and York MP Hugh Bayley were among those in attendance when Clifton Green School opened its new nursery.
The building, an extension to the school's Kingsway site, is the final piece in the jigsaw for school chiefs, who moved from Skipton Street, a year ago.
Head teacher Sheila Audsley said the new nursery meant pupils were able to finally leave their old site and join their infant friends.
She said: "We are thoroughly delighted that the nursery is now open. Finally the infants and nursery school children are together.
"It is much more convenient for parents and the community. It is based in the centre of the school. We believe that early years learning is at the centre of education."
