POCKLINGTON turned on a determined display to record a 26-14 Yorkshire Two derby victory over Beverley.

Beverley were the first to show, kicking an early penalty from skipper Ian Archibold. Pocklington's pack stood up well to the heavier Beverley forwards and they replied on the quarter hour when good approach play ended with two home forwards being stopped on the line before scrum-half John Frank touched down from all of six inches.

Beverley straight away came back with another penalty before Pocklington regained the lead again, another incisive attack seeing them give away the ball, but then get it straight back from Beverley and a couple of long passes sent wing Tim Bolton haring over in the corner.

Beverley ended the first half on the attack and though they missed a penalty they were on target with a drop goal to close the gap to a single point.

Pocklington took the initiative at the start of the second period and full-back Mark Taylor banged over a penalty. As Beverley tried to batter up the middle Pocklington's tackling held firm, with their back row to the fore. And when Beverley had a forward sin-binned midway through the half Pocklington were quick to take advantage and a 20-yard line-out catch and drive was started and finished by lock Mark Biggin.

Pocklington looked to be in the driving seat but Beverley then produced an 80-yard breakaway which brought them a try in the left corner, and soon after the visitors dropped the ball with a clear overlap.

Pocklington also dropped the ball with the line begging, but Taylor did give them breathing space with another penalty.

Pocklington camped on the attack in the closing minutes and Taylor sealed victory with his third penalty success in injury time.
