YORK RI battled hard but went down 39-3 to Yorkshire Three table-toppers Hemsworth on Saturday.
The score, however, does not do justice to the effort RI put in to the game, three late tries stretching the points difference. Hemsworth opened the scoring in the tenth minute and quickly added a penalty for an 8-0 lead before a Matthew Yates penalty put RI back into the game.
Strong runs from Mallon and Alexander drove Hemsworth back but the home side increased the lead just before the break with two unconverted tries. RI started the second half well and kept the pressure on Hemsworth, but the home side's defence held, their strong running forwards keeping RI at bay.
The last 15 minutes proved to be the most fruitful for Hemsworth with three converted tries.
