IN the remaining York FA Saturday Senior Cup second round ties, Malton Bacon Factory held off the brave challenge of Post Office, writes Bob Grainger.

MBF, who have won all their York Leeper Hare premier division games this season were given a real run for their money by the first division outfit.

Post Office made best use of the wind early on and Mike Heels hit a post after only five minutes.

After Nigel Allan forced the Post Office keeper Steve Kelly to make a fine save, Darryl Craggs kicked the ball off the Bacon Factory line with his keeper beaten.

MBF forced six corners in three minutes, but a combination of good defending and excellent goalkeeping by Kelly, kept the scoreline blank until, with two minutes of the half remaining, Nicky Drew finished off a five-man move to give Malton the lead.

Jonathan Hough squandered a great chance to equalise for Post Office just before the interval but MBF made it 2-0 when Allan followed in a Craggs shot to score.

Post Office kept plugging away and Rich Dalby outpaced the Bacon Factory keeper to reduce the arrears. This spurred Post Office on but they were found wanting at the back with 10 minutes remaining when a long ball found Simon Collins who lobbed the advancing Kelly to make it 3-1.

Gallant Post Office still fought on and with two minutes remaining Alex Livie outstripped a static Bacon Factory defence to score.

Post Office poured forward for an equalise and in the last minute were caught on the break when Nathan Milner made it 4-2.

Osbaldwick are in the draw for the third round after beating Old Malton 4-1, with Graham Freer opening the scoring with a 20 yard shot and further goals coming from Lee Bond, Steve Jackson and substitute James Luck.

Nestl Rowntree were 1-0 up by half time with a header from Steve Blake against league leaders Dringhouses but in the second half Dringhouses came back strongly with Craig McShane equalising and Joe Gaughan putting them into the lead.

A defensive error then let in Gaughan for his second goal and give his side a 3-1 victory.

The final place in the third round went to Kartiers who defeated South Bank by 4-3 with all the goals coming in the first half.
