I AM afraid that the letter from Susan Scott with her facts about monosodium glutamate (MSG) was a complete load of rubbish (October 21).
I used to suffer from a heart condition known as atrial fibrillation which was proven to be triggered off by anything containing MSG (some people refer to it as 'Chinese salt' because it is present in many Chinese meals).
It is a flavour enhancer in many savoury things, rife in most crisps and things like Oxo and Bisto gravy salt, to name but a few. Also about the migraines, it has been discovered that MSG affects adversely the retina of the eye, which could produce symptoms like disturbance of vision and headache, therefore migraine.
