A BRILLIANT Mick Harris game inspired Volunteer to a 6-3 win in York Open League division one.

Paul Botterill gave Volunteer the lead when including a maximum in a splendid 17 darts. However Cygnet battled back to lead 3-1. Harris then slotted a fantastic 15 darts and Volunteer went on to take the remaining games.

Dean Saxton hit the high scores in an excellent 17 darts and was well backed by a 95 finish from Darren Bailey as Tap recorded an emphatic win over Bishopthorpe SC, whose only point came from the Tess Potts-Tony Raymond combination.

Dave Pilmoor's notable 17-darter set Greyhound on their way to take all the singles against Slipper, while John Quantock got among the tons to clinch the aggregate point for Six Bells after Jamie Radford-Steve Richardson had wrapped up the win for Crescent 'A'.

In division two, Reindeer fought back from 3-0 down to square against Howden, who then again rallied to take both the pairs and extra point.

An excellent 19 darts from Dick Willoughby was well supported by a 21-darter from Greg Robinson as Pack edged the win and aggregate against Crescent 'B'.

Leeman lost their way in a 5-4 defeat against Mount 'A', whose Mark Thornton did well, while in the basement battle, Hospital Social Club went down at Woolpack, whose best performer was Brian Atkinson.

Yearsley lead division three following a narrow 5-4 win over Winning Post, Grahame Ellis hitting the tons and Dave Ellis throwing a ton checkout. Craig Norrie made Post's best reply.

Mike Boddy won Ship's only singles point against Jackdaw, while Little John celebrated their first win of the season with a 6-3 win against Indoor Bowls. Adam Lancaster and Rob Blake starred and Mike Snowden showed up for the losers.

Huntington 'B' maintained their intact record with Pip Hair in excellent form in a 6-3 win against Mount 'B', whose Geoff Holmes was outstanding.

Arthur Pegden-Mal Boys were Fulford Arms' match-winners against Bay Horse 'B'.

Sue Turpin closed 72 for 21 darts to give Tap a start at Britannia 'A' and was later involved with Vicky Arundale in the decider to secure a 5-4 win in York John Smith's Ladies League division one.

Sandra Bruce included 100, 100, 118 to give Ox a solid 4-2 advantage over Slipper, who again buckled in the pairs.

Carole Layne (24) and Roz Kerr (125,140) set Palace on the path to a 7-2 win against Phoenix, whose Clair Cooper played well.

Wendy Smith (100, 100) and Dawn Exton (140, 100) were outstanding for Cygnet 'A', who flew to a 6-3 win against Clifton 'A'. Jo Hodges (100, 100, 140) and Lynn Richford (100,132) starred in reply.

Bev Harton (22) and a 95 finish from Angie Hields saw Cue Ball 'B' clear the table against Cygnet 'B'.

Pat Cairns and Claire Robinson combined to seal a 5-4 victory in Slip's favour despite being a player down against Flag.

In division two, Cath Roe won Burton WMC the opener but Severus had Linda Davies kick-starting a five-game victory run.

Leeman 'A' had a good performer in Debbie Witts, but Jubilee took the match 6-3.

Shepherd 'A' beat Clifton 'A' 6-3 but Shepherd 'B' could not mirror that and lost by the same scoreline against Leeman 'B', whose Toni Smallwood starred. Holgate WMC beat Blacksmith's 6-3.

Dringhouses were 4-2 up thanks to good scoring from Margaret and Sarah Bell, but Britannia 'B' were indebted to Alison Buckley and a last-game victory from Chris Garbutt-Betty Pinder.

Tang Hall WMC lead division three after slick scoring by Debbie Moody and Sue Skinner helped them to unseat Woolpack 6-3.

Cue Ball 'A' shot ahead through Joan Hunter (174) and Pauline Willey but Mitre responded with landlady Carol Pearson and Clare McPherson to the fore. Pearson then combined with Emma Rientoul to seal the win.

Diane Schofield-Jackie Read won the decider after Carol Stone and Cath Garnet had put Puss 'A' level with Leeman 'C'.

Michelle Kelly hit the tons as Puss 'B' ran out 6-3 winners at Vaults, whose Anne Keswick showed good form.

Marie Simpson and Clarie Barratt scored well to steer Old Ebor to a good win against Reindeer, while Celia Jones and Marjorie Pearson were inspirational in Burnholme's win at Mount, for whom Mandy Watson starred.

Registration sheets must be returned to the secretary this week or points gained will be lost.
