THE Evening Press can today reveal the new home strip of the York City Knights.

The Press can also reveal - as seen on the graphic - that the Knights' new shirt sponsor is Guildford Construction, the York-based company owned by the club's majority shareholder, John Guildford.

Details of the deal have not yet been released, but both Guildford and Knights chief executive Steve Ferres have said various options are still available regarding shirt and other sponsorships.

They also explained that Guildford Construction's sponsorship deal was separate to Guildford's shareholding in the club.

The strip itself has been designed by respected kit manufacturers Kukri, the Knights' official kit sponsors, and will come in two forms - replica shirts for fans will be in popular retro-style cotton, while the playing kit will be in the modern 'sublimation' style, a mixture of polyester and cotton.

The Press revealed last week that the club's official colours would be navy blue, sky blue and white, and each is included in the home kit. The 'V' design, meanwhile, is a traditional rugby league design and, judging by debate among supporters, was desired by many Knights fans.

Knights chief executive Steve Ferres said the design was chosen after discussions with supporters "We gave our specifications to Kukri, they came back with various designs and we felt this looked the best," he said.

"The 'V' always looks good and makes players appear bigger. We think it looks really smart. It's a quality product from a quality company."

The design of the Knights' away kit will be revealed at a later date.

Orders for replica strips can already be taken via the Knights' office. The first batch off the production line are due on December 20 - just in time for Christmas and a month before the start of the season on January 19.

All sizes - from extra small to XXX large - cost £39.95. For details contact Knights secretary Leanne Cooper at the Knights' office, tel 01904 656105.

Meanwhile, the planned trial match for wannabe Knights, which was provisionally scheduled for tomorrow night, has been postponed as Ferres is still seeking suitable opposition for the trialists. A new date has yet been set.
