THE innovative imagination of a young York football fan has seen his solo kickabout machine put on display in the national Science Museum.
Nine-year-old Daniel Walton, of Huntington, is the proud inventor of the Football-O-Matic, a contraption that solves the age-old problem of how to play football on your own.
Huntington Primary School pupil Daniel entered the machine, which is filled with footballs and has boots on poles to kick them, into the Bright Ideas contest.
Run by soft drinks makers Robinsons, the competition challenged young people to come up with new and interesting inventions.
The judges decided Liverpool fan Daniel's idea was the best and so awarded him first prize - £500 to spend in the Science Museum's shop and a plinth for his invention at the museum.
His prizes were handed over on Saturday by actor Lee Cornes, who plays geeky science teacher Mr Hankin in the BBC series Grange Hill.
