Tadcaster Grammar School's coffers will receive a welcome boost with a craft fair this weekend.

Organised by the school's Parents' Association, the fair will be held this Saturday at Tadcaster's Riley-Smith Hall.

It will be opened at 10.30am by Graham Roberts, who plays a leading role in BBC Radio 4's The Archers. Mr Roberts, of Copmanthorpe, plays George Barford, a retired policeman and gamekeeper, who is married to Christine Barford, sister of Phil Archer.

It will be the fourth craft fair held by the Parents' Association in the last two years. The previous three raised more than £1,500, which enabled the school to buy a 15-station computer network to aid design technology.

Head teacher Geoff Mitchell said that more than 30 stalls had been booked, thanks to an overwhelming response by local craft workers. He said local businesses had also supported the event and boosted funds by advertising in the school's first programme.
