HUNTINGTON Ladies opened their York Badminton League division two account with a 7-2 away win over Knavesmire.

Bev Tebbutt and Angela Hobman kept up their good form from last season with three wins for a return of 90-29.

Knavesmire's Lisa Metcalfe and Chiara Secchi took both home wins, but lost out seven and five to Tebbutt and Hobman.

Men's division one saw York RI comprehensively beat Drax 'A' 8-1 at their Queen Street gym.

Mike Jones and Tim Jarvis took three wins for a total of 90-12 while Steve Parr and Mark Harris took the Drax consolation with an 11 and zero over Nick Brodie and Peter Crossland.

In men's division three, Selby Jubilee 'B' opened with a narrow 5-4 home win over Market Weighton. S Durston and P Ashton took three Weighton wins for 90-28 but Paul Newnham and Simon Benson sealed the Jubilee win with a one and six result over G Smith and A Warburton.

Shepherds 'B' proved too strong for RI T/Thurs 'C' and won 9-0.

Matt Baker and John Fitch were the pick of the Shepherd pairs, returning three straight wins for 92-52.

Rowntree 'B' were given a tough match by Pocklington 'A' before winning 5-4 in mixed division two.

Mark Barker and J Palmer's three wins for Rowntrees proved decisive while Chris Kunkel and Sally Howat took two Pocklington wins, but lost out 11 and six to Barker and Palmer.

Rowntree 'B's next match saw them prove the selectors right with a 9-0 defeat by their 'A' team club-mates. The 'A' team's pairing of Jeff Whittaker and Brenda Drummond proved the most successful with three straight wins for a return of 90-52.

Drax 'D' entertained Clifton 'C' and ran out 7-2 winners in mixed division three.

A Boyes and D McKenzie took three wins for a total of 101-57 which included an 11-15, 15-5, 15-6 score over Kate Wilson and David Bloomfield, who took both Clifton wins.

YUSC 'A' were taken all the way by St John's before winning 5-4.

George Noble and Lucy Smith took three student teacher wins for 109-79 but Sally Locker and Simon Fletcher secured the Staff Club win with an eight and 13 win over Lindsey Spicer and Liam Whittington.

The student teachers of St John's suffered a further reverse when they entertained RI Tuesday/Thursday 'A' and lost 6-3.

Mike Corley and Lindsay O'Neil topped the Institute averages with three wins for a total of 103-53.

Tadcaster 86 played host to Pocklington 'B' and won the mixed division four fixture 8-1.

Andrew Cooper and Gill Gavin put in the best home display with three straight wins for 92-51. Bob Atkinson and Sheila Fixter took the consolation with a one and one score over Alan Ward and Fiona Severs.

Fulfordgate 'B' went down 6-3 at home to Market Weighton in mixed division five.

Mother and son partnership of Sue and Simon Durston put in another solid display with three wins for a total of 102-52.

Terrys hit good away form to win 5-4 at Pocklington 'C' in mixed division six.

Ross and Judy Wilson were the architects of the Terrys success with three wins for 104-64 including a ten and seven score over Rachel Hodgson and Martin Anderson who took two Pocklington wins.
