YORK Acorn Under-13s produced some good rugby in their 16-10 loss to Shaw Cross.

Man-of-the-match Adam Jones gave Acorn the lead but the hosts crossed three times to make it 12-4 at half-time.

Jones then hit back, Ross Varley converting, but the hosts scored late on to wrap it up. Tom Harrison, Paul Cross, Oliver Harrison and Mathew Fairclough shone for Acorn.

York Acorn Under-11s were worthy 20-6 winners after a tough game at Westgate.

Tries by Ben Johnston, plus conversion, Anthony Chilton, plus conversion, and Josh Mortimer saw Acorn into a 16-0 half-time lead.

Although Westgate, with the wind in their favour, hit back, crisp handling near Acorn's own line worked the ball to Liam Wilkinson, who stormed up the touchline to make the game safe.

Robert Dickson and Tyler Clark also did well for the Blue and Gold youths.

York Acorn Under-9s gave their best display yet in their draw with Dewsbury Moor.

Karl Read crossed first and Danny Atkins scored a beauty before Moor hit back.

Man-of-the-match Tim Winn and top tackler Martin Brown excelled, while Jack Appleby and Robert Leatham shone in defence.

Heworth Under-8s put in a dogged performance against Smawthorne.

Liam Jackson, Nathan Hammerton and James Kilmartin scored tries while George Churchill was man of the match and Thomas Jackson and Joseph Jackson also showed well.
