A NORTH Yorkshire pensioner who packed his bags and travelled the world after spending 45 years in the building trade has written a book about his experiences.
Wrinkly With Rucksack is the story of Alan Smith's journey across the world that included visits to Australia, New Zealand and America.
Alan, aged 67, from Easingwold, decided to set off on his travels after retiring last Christmas as he said he did not want to spend another winter in England.
"I have always wanted to travel and this was the first opportunity I have had to do it on my own," he said.
He set off on the three-month trip on January and recorded his experiences in each place and sent them to a friend who typed them up for the book.
He said: "It was quite fantastic to meet all sorts of different people. All the places I went had something to offer, although I particularly liked the lifestyle in Australia."
Alan is hoping to continue his travels and is planning a trip to New Zealand. If you would like to get hold of a copy of the book, contact Alan on 07808 316220.
