POLICE were today investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a York vicar.
The Reverend Terrence King, 69, was found dead in his home, in Abbey Street, Clifton.
It is understood a neighbour found him hanged yesterday morning.
Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
The investigation was to gather evidence for the coroner, spokesman Tony Lidgate said.
A post-mortem examination was taking place this morning and an inquest was expected to be opened and adjourned later today.
Mr King, who was married with three teenaged children, retired to York three years ago after serving as a vicar in Wakefield for 20 years.
A spokesman for the Archbishop of York, Dr David Hope, said today: "Dr Hope has been informed of Mr King's death and was shocked and saddened to hear of it. He is praying for Mr King's family and all those involved in this terrible tragedy."
