York City chairman John Batchelor has moved quickly to rubbish rumours he is set to be unveiled as Barnsley's new chairman, writes Tony Curtis.
Speculation coming out of Oakwell had suggested Batchelor was poised to be the man to guide Barnsley out of administration.
But Batchelor told the Evening Press that although he had been talking to the ailing Division Two club, it was to help them out of their current predicament, not to take over.
"I've been speaking to the previous board at Barnsley to help find a solution to their problems," he said. "I've tried to offer them a helping hand.
"I have been talking to them on and off since they went into administration, as I am a friend of the chairman John Dennis, to see if I can help.
"I can only presume that someone has seen my car, which is covered with York City stickers, at Oakwell, put two and two together and come up with five."
