FREE-SCORING midfielder Vicki Trapps is on her way to the European Women's Deaf Football Championships, courtesy of a little help from her dad and Ladbrokes.
Hull star Trapps, from Acomb, caught the eye of the British coach after netting 12 goals in her last tournament, and the feat was enough to earn her a late call-up to the squad for the nine-day competition in Bulgaria.
However, her surprise inclusion meant the 22-year-old was left with only a couple of weeks to raise the £450 needed to take part.
Her father Andrew approached his local branch of Ladbrokes in Acomb for help and they kindly offered him a free £100 bet, which he promptly won with to give Vicki £367.63 start.
The rest of the money was supplied by Andrew's employers Thrall, Severus and Acomb Working Men's Clubs, Leeman Hotel, Clifton Hotel, the York branch of the Deaf Children's Society, as well as friends of the family.
Vicki, who only seriously took up women's football 18 months ago, will now travel with the British squad on November 9 for the tournament.
