IF THERE is a more underrated band in Britain than the Alabama 3, it's difficult to name them.
Three albums, countless UK tours and the theme tune to The Sopranos make an impressive musical CV, yet they remain underground.
But that's probably the way they'd like it. As well as being low profile, Alabama 3 are also highly political and Power In The Blood reinforces their views. The song Woody Guthrie includes strong, topical stuff such as "while the BNP scare refugees senseless up in Oldham town/hypocrites in Downing Street pour petrol on the flames".
The message is wrapped in the Alabama's blend of country-blues-techno with, as always, Larry Love taking care of the lead vocals while the Very Reverend Dr D Wayne Love preaches to the faithful. Listen to them.
Alabama 3 plays Fibbers, York, tomorrow night. Sold out, for returns only ring 01904 670542.
