Level 42 are as Eighties as the Rubik Cube. The band had 15 hits, all included here.
But these hits were wallpaper music to the Thatcher years, with red-braced yuppies, sporting phones the size of a brick, networking in wine bars, with Something About You blaring in the background.
Time has not been kind to the band, which is a shame. Level 42 sported some gifted musicians, especially front man and bassist Mark King. But their brand of Britfunk was a whiter shade of bland.
The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up) and The Chinese Way are decent enough, but I positively disliked Lessons In Love and the laborious Running In The Family. Pompous, dreary and out of time.
