A "POPTASTIC" cure has been found for unhappy cats at animal rescue centre The Blue Cross - boy bands.
Staff at the Thirsk-based centre discovered the unusual remedy after two long-term residents Tess and Jody perked up from their usual depressed state after hearing Westlife on the radio.
"It was remarkable," said animal welfare assistant Nicky Hall.
"They actually got up and started showing off and playing with each other, I suppose it's quite uplifting when you're down in the dumps."
The six-year-old black cats were first taken to the centre in March and although lively at first with healthy appetites, soon became unhappy when they were repeatedly passed over for adoption.
Now staff are hoping the boy band-loving duo will be given a second chance.
"They have great personalities," said Nicky.
"They are loving and sweet and would be very loyal to their new family."
Anyone living in the North Yorkshire area interested in giving Tess and Jody a home should contact The Blue Cross on 01845 577759 or visit the centre in Parklands, Station Road, Topcliffe, Thirsk.
