YORK'S civic party will be dishing out the Christmas cheer to elderly residents again this year - but places are limited.

City residents, aged 60 and over, are invited to attend the Lord Mayor's and Sheriff's Christmas Cheer receptions in December.

There will be carol singing, sandwiches with tea and coffee, a raffle to win the many prizes kindly donated by local businesses, and the experience of hearing the civic party attempt to sing one verse of a carol all on their own.

The receptions will take place at the Assembly Rooms between 10am and noon, and between 2pm and 4pm, on Wednesday, December 11.

The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Horton, and the Lady Mayoress, Kathleen Gibson, will attend both receptions, with the Sheriff of York, Councillor Martin Brumby, and the Sheriff's Lady, Annette Brumby. Anyone wishing to attend should complete the application form printed here, stating which time they would prefer. While every effort will be made to meet each request, a ticket for the alternative time may be sent if the requested time is unavailable.

As numbers are strictly limited, it is advisable to return your completed coupon as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday, November 20, to: Civic Administrator, Electoral & Civic Services, Lord Mayor and Sheriff's Christmas Cheer Receptions, The Guildhall, York, YO1 9QN.
