NORTH Yorkshire night clubs are to open longer hours from Saturday in an effort to cut down on street disturbance.
The three-month experiment in Harrogate, of extending opening hours from 2am to 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, will initially involve Cardinal Sins, Jimmy's and Po Na Na, with another club, Carring-tons, joining in soon.
The scheme being run by the clubs, the police, and Harrogate Borough Council, is to see whether spreading the dispersal of customers from the clubs has a beneficial effect in reducing public disorder.
But borough council leader, Geoff Webber, stressed that the changes would not allow the purchase of alcohol after 2am - only music and dancing. All alcoholic drinks must still be consumed by 2.30am.
