YORK kept up their challenge for the Top Ten finals with an excellent 103-51 win against Metrodome picking up the maximum 15 points.

At home, David Stroughair, Phil Emmerson, Dudley Williams and Philip Scott won 11 of the last 14 ends in the fours to win 24-12 and in the singles Paul Mooring pulled away after being tied at 16-16 to win 21-16.

Iain Boyle and Graham Instone carried on their recent form with another good away 39-8 win in the pairs, scoring sixes on the seventh and 18th ends. In the triples, Michael Bruce, Frank Turner and John Walker scored five shots over the last two ends to win 19-15.

The New Earswick Ladies had an exciting 78-76 win in the Yorkshire Ladies League against last year's winners Thornaby.

Jean Bartnett, Maureen Cooper, Dot Kay and Ann Thompson had a great start at home scoring 11 shots in the first three ends towards a 28-13 win.

In the other home rink, Shirley Hopwood, Peg Walker, Audrey Shingles and Margaret Blows were well beaten 32-10.

At Thornaby, Margaret Moss, Kath Sykes, Kath Hardcastle and Pat Walker were trailing 12-11 after 14 ends before rallying for an excellent 24-13 victory. Brenda Keller, Lys Jerrum, Barbara Brigham and Diane Hardy were winning 16-14 with two ends to go, but dropped a three and a single and went down 18-16. New Earswick picked up six points.

York Ladies had an impressive 71-62 win against last year's finalists Hornsea.

Pat Napier, Maureen Walker, June Clayton and Madge Zimnoch had a great start scoring a five on the first end, followed by a six on the third to lead 11-2 on their way to 24-14 victory. Pat Wilson, Sue Kirkpatrick, Margaret Smith and Marilyn Andrews won 17-13.

At Hornsea, Melanie Brooke, Sheila Turpin, Maureen Robinson and Maureen Thomas built up a comfortable lead at 18-6 after 15 ends, winning 20-9, though the other rink of Linda Harrison, Betty Richrdson, Clarice Johnston and Ena Neal surprisingly dropped 11 shots over the last four ends and went down 26-10.

York picked up eight points.

York's hopes of retaining the trophy they have won for the last two seasons were severely dented when they went down to a heavy defeat to Thornaby in the Yorkshire Over 55's League Division One.

The away leg was played two days before the home game and the teams of Brian Thomas, Alwyn Redhead, Gordon Walker and Norman Vause in one rink and Graham Brooke, Tex Stevens, Ron Kirkpatrick and Ken Patterson in the other did well to keep the aggregate deficit down when they scored a five and a six respectively. But Thomas' rink went down 16-14 and Brooke's 24-18.

Normally, the deficit of eight would have been within the home side's capabilities, but Peter Littlewood, Barry Walker, Noel Cammidge and Doug Mitchell drew 17-17, while Frank Turner, Fred Clayden, Dave McCowan and Dudley Williams disappointedly went down 18-10 for York to collect only one point.

York's Second Division Over 55's League team drew their second game of the season 74-74 against Scarborough.

Alwyn Johnson, Dave Clayton, Bill Pearson and Dave Holder led after 17 ends but lost 25-20, while Ken Ogden, Alan Storey, Peter Czarnobaj and Colin Sharpley fought back to within three shots before going down 17-13.

At Scarborough, Tony Bryan, Arthur Dunbar, John Berridge and Charlie Arnett rallied to secure a 17-17 draw.

Geoff Oglesby, Geoff Eagles, Tony Hopcutt and Ken Hutson won the last four ends but could not avoid defeat, leaving with an overall haul of six points.
