Lisa Metcalfe and Chiara Secchi starred for Knavesmire Ladies as their team beat St John's 6-3 in division two of the York Badminton League.

Metcalfe and Secchi scored three wins for a return of 90-33, including an 11 and six over Rhia Williams and Lucy Smith, who took two Student wins.

Market Weighton beat old rivals Pocklington 7-2.

Linda McDonagh and Laura Durston were Weighton's winners with a return of 90-25 from three straight wins. Sue Percival and Sally Howard took both Pocklington wins in a good display.

Selby Jubilee 'A' were beaten 2-7 at home to RI Tuesday/Thursday 'A' in Men's One.

Mike Corley and Matt Hitchens top-scored for the Institute with three wins for 112-71, including a tough 15-11, 12-15, 15-11 over Neil Richardson and Pete Lund.

Riverside were in top home form winning 9-0 over Drax 'B' in Men's Division Two. Nigel Stainforth and Ian McKinlay were the pick of the Riverside pairs with three straight wins for a return of 90-13.

Clifton 'A' proved too strong for University Students 'B' winning 9-0 in Mixed Division One.

Ian Shore and Karen Anderson were in great form for the St Peter's School-based club winning all three for a total of 90-42.

However, University Students 'A' improved the club's fortunes with a 7-2 home win over York RI 'B'. Russell Binns and Nicky Roe put in a blistering display for the Students with three straight wins for 90-20.

Sheriff Hutton beat Rowntree 'B' 6-3 in Mixed Division Two. The new pairing of Andrew Daffern and Jo Wade topped the Hutton averages with three wins for 90-31. They were well supported by Dave Grieve and Paula Floyd who returned 90-53, also from three straight wins.

Drax 'C' used home advantage to beat YUSC 'A' 7-2 in Mixed Division Three. Angie Spivey and Dennis Bradley had an excellent series for Drax, taking a straight games maximum for a return of 90-45.

Drax 'E' and Tadcaster 86 had a close match in Mixed Four, with the Drax outfit just edging home 5-4. Steph Bevan and Adam Prescott made the Drax difference with three wins for 111-91. This included the overall match-winner Willie Thoy beating Alan Ward and J Duxbury 2 and 12.

Huntington 'B' opened their term with a 5-3 win over RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B' in a time-affected match.

Ellen Mooney and Matt Hitchens took two Institute wins in a sound display. But they lost out 15-9, 6-15, 9-15 to John Deighton and Carolyn Arden who were the pick of the Huntington pairs.

Selby Jubilee 'B', going well in Mixed Five, continued their success with an 8-1 away win over Fulfordgate 'B'.

Pete Lund and Lynn Dawson topped the Jubilee averages with three wins for 90-43, while Peter and Anita Wilkinson picked up the consolation with an 11 and nine over Paul and Val Newnham.

University Students 'C' continued their good progress with a 9-0 home win over Drax 'F'. The Students' opening pair of Ben Tilley and Kate Haydock were the pick of the display with three straight wins for 90-21.

Middlethorpe hit good home form in Mixed Six to score an 8-1 win over Selby Jubilee 'C'. Ray Oxley and Hazel Quarrie took three straight wins for 90-56, while Paul Newnham and Karen Shooter took the Jubilee consolation with an eight and 11 over Georgina Mackenzie and Geoff Deighton.
