CHRISTINE Collister has one of the greatest, sweetest voices, yet she remains a minority interest.

True, she can fill the Royal Albert Hall, so someone must be taking notice. It's just that for such a fine singer, Collister isn't known as she should be. Into The Light sees her carrying on doing what she does, performing songs that sit somewhere between folk, soul, jazzy blues and pop, and in a voice that soars, swoons and coaxes. The mood is mostly upbeat or of sophisticated regret. The production is smoother than before, which could have reduced the intimacy, except that Collister's voice is strong enough easily to survive. Her own compositions, such as the opening Ashlands and A Kinder Heart, are mixed with covers including Roddy Frame's Hymn To Grace, U2's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and Paul Simon's Quiet. A perfect introduction for anyone who's not caught on yet.

Christine Collister plays a sold-out gig at The Shed, Brawby, on November 23.
