A YORK man whose violent behaviour caused a baby to be tipped out of its pushchair into the road has been sentenced to community rehabilitation.
Michael Andrew Thackeray, 23, of Poppleton Gatehouse, York, had admitted using threatening words and behaviour and criminal damage at an earlier hearing, and the case was adjourned for reports.
York magistrates heard yesterday how a driver stopped his works van and ran to help the baby when he saw it tipped from the pushchair into the carriageway near the lights at the railway station end of Leeman Road, York.
When the driver approached Thackeray, 23, he acted as if he would kick the van driver, then later kicked at his van, and when police were called, resisted arrest.
After reading psychological and probation reports on Thackeray, magistrates decided he had problems that needed to be addressed and ordered him to carry out 18 months' community rehabilitation. They also ordered him to pay £30 prosecution costs.
