BATTLING qualities were shown by York's U11 footballers to reach the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup after a hard-fought victory over Wakefield.

The match ended level at 0-0 after 60 minutes with very few chances created.

Extra time was played, but with penalties beckoning Gary Chapman produced a storming right-foot shot from just inside the area to send York through.

York were indebted to Alex Fowler, who worked tirelessly in midfield, and Ryan Qualter, who marshalled the defence superbly.

York will now play the winners of the tie between Leeds and Sheffield in February.
