MELANIE C, alias Sporty Spice, is to play York Barbican Centre on April 29 as part of her first British tour in two years.
On her last visit, on May 16 2001, she hit the headlines after "turning the air blue with some choice language" in her excitement at her beloved Liverpool clinching victory in a topsy-turvy 5-4 encounter with Alaves in the UEFA Cup Final that same night.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning at £17.50, available from the Barbican box office on 01904 656688 or the 24-hour credit card hotline, 0871 220 0260.
Spice Girl Melanie's 14-date tour will open on April 24 in Middlesbrough, in support of her second solo album, Reason, set for release on March 10. A single, Here It Comes Again, will be in the shops on February 24.
On tour, she will showcase songs from Reason, complemented by hits from her near million-selling solo debut, Northern Star. With her will be regular band members Fergus Gerrand, music director and drums, and Paul Gendler, lead guitars, plus Greg Hatwell, rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Sarah de Courcy Aston, keyboards & backing vocals, Georgina 'Grog' Prebble, bass and backing vocals.
The support act will be the new Sheffield band Liko.
