I WISH to contact any surviving family members of the late Warrant Officer John Coates Smith, an RAF wireless operator killed in an air raid on Mailly-le-Camp, France, on May 3/4 1944.
John was a member of the crew of Lancaster ND905, based at Elsham Wolds, Lincolnshire. He originally came from Gate Helmsley, Yorkshire, where his death is commemorated in the local parish church.
Having completed a history of the crew and their fate, myself and relatives of other crew members intend meeting at the graveside in May 2004 to mark the 60th anniversary of their deaths.
We should be pleased to have any of John Smith's family join us for the occasion.
If you can help contact me via e-mail on kbailey@yp-connect.net or by writing to the address below.
Keith Bailey,
17 Hay Street,
