A WOMAN was taken to hospital by air ambulance after her car crashed into a farm building on an East Yorkshire road today.

The 20-year-old woman, from Driffield, was driving a Fiat Cinquecento on the A166 at Garrowby Hill, at 8.20am towards York when her car left the road and crashed into a nearby building.

PC Nick Cooper, of Pocklington police, said: "It would appear she has lost control on the road, which at the time was slippery. She was travelling in the direction of York and there were no other vehicles involved."

Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Pamela Megginson, who lives at a nearby farmhouse, said her son's girlfriend, who was walking dogs at the time, was alerted to the accident and asked to ring for an ambulance. No one in the house had heard anything.

An ambulance from Pocklington, two fire crews from Pocklington, and the air ambulance attended the scene.

An elderly woman motorist drove into the front of the Sainsbury store, at Monks Cross, York, causing "structural damage". The woman's Renault Clio collided with the caf area of the supermarket at about 10am yesterday, causing considerable damage.

She suffered leg injuries and was taken to York Hospital by ambulance. No one else was injured.

Two people were killed in a three-car pile-up on the B6451, between Harrogate and Otley. The victim, who have not yet been identified, were pronounced dead at the scene. Police are appealing for witnesses and would like to speak to anyone who saw a red Mitsubishi Coupe sports car in the area at the time of the accident, at 4pm yesterday.

A driver sustained minor injuries after a collision with a police vehicle on its way to an incident in York. The accident happened at the junction of Poppleton Road and Water End, York, yesterday at about 7.20pm. The police vehicle was travelling through traffic lights on its way to an incident involving a car break-in and had sirens and blue lights on when the collision took place.
