STAFF at a York petrol station got a shock when a car lost control and smashed into their forecourt shop.
Police were called to Spaceway Services, in Great North Way, at York Business Park, Poppleton, after the green Rover Metro crashed into a large front window and sent shelves of sweets flying.
Louise Smith, deputy manager, said: "The couple of night staff who were working got quite a shock, but luckily no one was hurt. It has taken out one of the really big windows in the middle and crushed and bent the aluminium part at the bottom.
"It is boarded up at the moment, but should be fixed soon."
Police were unable to give details of how the accident happened, but it is thought the woman driver may have crashed into the window after trying to avoid a collision with another car on the forecourt.
The incident happened at about 1.20am on Wednesday.
