YORK motor sports enthusiast Mark Griffin was making his debut as a Mini car racer today.
The 28-year-old is in Dover competing in the first round of the British Clubman's Championship series, in which he will be driving his MG Metro 1300 engine Mini classic.
"I went to a Mini racing meeting as a spectator and got talking to people and found out that it is a low-budget sport, so I have decided to take it up," said Griffin, who has received sponsorship from Car Solutions and Monteray Recruitment.
"I have always liked tinkering with cars and have done test practice sessions at Acaster Malbis and Brayton, near Gainsborough. I have raced karts before but not Minis."
Car Solutions are providing the transport vehicle for Griffin, who works for Grantrail track renewals company.
