SCARBOROUGH residents are being urged to have their say as the borough council looks into the demand for a referendum on regional government.
The consultation process is part of a Government exercise to gauge public support for a directly elected regional assembly for Yorkshire and the Humber.
The council has written to local businesses seeking their views and is talking to its residents' panel and parish councils in the area.
A questionnaire for residents to complete is also available.
Coun Mike Nesfield, deputy leader of the council, said: "It is important that if people feel strongly either way, they let the council know. Ultimately the council will have to let the Government know what the level of feeling here in the Borough of Scarborough is and we must do as much consultation as we can."
Positive support for a referendum could lead to a review of the local government structure in North Yorkshire.
