MISSING - ONE UFO, last seen disappearing above the roofs of a village near York.
Filled with helium, the remote control airship balloon was kept tied up in the hall of the Hook family home in The Avenue, Haxby.
But when dad John left to go to work early last Wednesday morning, the balloon escaped into the night sky.
John said: "I left the door open for a minute on the way out, then it shot out of the door, gone forever, as far as we know.
"It just flew out into the darkness, and away."
John's son, Thomas, was given the remote controlled airship for his 14th birthday in early February. Now John has his fingers crossed that the ship will return.
He has advertised for the safe return of the strange craft in the Evening Press under the heading "Lost UFO".
"It was filled with helium, so it might come down and land in someone's garden.
"It might give some people a bit of a fright as well."
John and Thomas are now hoping the UFO will be found.
