A RESIDENT was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation after a rubbish fire spread to a house in Scarborough today.

The unnamed person was taken to Scarborough Hospital after the blaze broke out in Queen's Terrace just after midnight.

Firefighters fought to contain the fire which had spread from a yard at the rear of the four-storey terraced house before spreading to the ground and first-floor bathrooms.

Two tenders and a turntable ladder were used to control the fire which severely damaged the ground-floor bathroom and left the entire property smoke damaged.
