CREATIVE children from a York School used more than 20,000 pieces of paper to make a giant paper chain as part of an innovative fundraising scheme.

Youngsters from Dringhouses Primary School spent an afternoon making the chain, which measured 515 metres.

Parents, staff and children paid £1 to guess the length of the chain to raise funds for a new school building to house two new classrooms.

The event was organised by the PTA and raised more than £931 which will go towards the £9,000 needed.

Chairman of the PTA, Mike Smith, said the whole school had taken part and the children had been phenomenal.
