CITY of York ladies II rounded off their season in style in division two of the Yorkshire League with a 4-1 win at Doncaster III.

In contrast to last week's 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture between the two teams, York rattled in three first half goals, the first a well-taken shot by Kate Longbotham.

Sue Draper scored the second with a deflected effort before Lucy Butcher added the third, scoring from a narrow angle.

Doncaster then came back into the game but their long-ball approach created few problems for York 'keeper Lynne Gowland.

When Krista Siddall scored the fourth goal after the break, York were in no danger of losing

but it took a good save from Gowland to prevent Doncaster scoring before they were rewarded with a late consolation goal following a penalty corner.

The win consolidated York's mid-table finish after a couple of disappointing seasons.

City of York ladies II's promotion to Yorkshire League division six has been confirmed. Harrogate IV were runaway champions with over 100 goals to their credit.

City of York men's VIII thoroughly deserved all three points as they beat Yorkshire League division ten rivals Scunthorpe 3-1.

York, needing the win to give them a chance of avoid the drop, were not helped in their cause by starting the match with nine men, but when they were up to the full complement they took the lead through Andy Dent.

Just before half-time, Scunthorpe equalised, but City hit back after the break with Alex Herriott and Tom Rowlands both scoring to settle the result.

City of York Hockey Club will hold its annual meeting on May 7 at the Clubhouse, Elm Park Way. The meeting starts at 7.30pm, with all members expected to attend.
