A YORK teacher has been given a special award for her contribution to science teaching.

Julie Harper, from Dringhouses Primary School, was awarded the prize from the Ariel Stains And Science schools programme. Julie, who was nominated by the school's head teacher, Julia Elliott, received a certificate and £100 to spend on science resources.

To get the award Julie organised a number of science events including a science day and an after-school club.

Ms Elliott said: "Julie is a dedicated teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to science throughout the whole school." Julie said "I am thrilled to accept this honour on behalf of the school.

"We are always looking for new ways to enrich the teaching of science in the classroom.

"Science is exciting and we always have a lot of fun doing experiments and gathering data."
