GUNS and ammunition are still being handed in to North Yorkshire Police as part of the ongoing firearms amnesty - bringing the total number of surrendered weapons to 169.

Between April 11 and 22, five revolvers and other guns were handed in, together with two sawn-off shotguns and 30 rifles, shotguns, air rifles and air pistols. Ten imitation firearms were also handed in to police stations along with 1,571 items of ammunition.

Throughout the amnesty, which ends on Wednesday, 20 revolvers and other handguns have been handed in, along with four sawn-off shotguns, 42 imitation firearms, 102 non-prohibited firearms, one other prohibited weapon and 4,090 items of ammunition.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman described it as a "pleasing flow of weapons and ammunition".
