NOT content with a simple trip to the gym or a stroll round the park, a team of York women has decided to lose weight the hard way - power-walking 26 miles at midnight.

Led by personal trainer Michelle Leck, the 12 team members, who have dubbed themselves the Fitness First girlies, are joining 15,000 women on the night-time marathon in an effort to raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

The event, which is the only power-walking marathon of its kind, will start at midnight on May 10 in London.

Michelle, who works for Fitness First York at Clifton Moor, said the team members were all women who were getting fit under her guidance. She said they would all be wearing bras that they have decorated themselves with lights, flowers and ribbons. She said: "It is a great way of getting fit, losing weight and raising money for a great cause."

She predicted the team would complete the gruelling event in seven hours.

Anyone who would like to sponsor Michelle and her team should phone her on 07900 395773.
