THE Evening Press prides itself on being part of the community it serves. Yet this newspaper is itself part of a wider community, one of some 1,300 local and regional newspapers across the country.
Just like the Evening Press, each of those newspapers aims to enrich the life of its community. As Tony Blair says in this newspaper today, ushering in Local Newspaper Week, "local papers are so important both to a healthy democracy and vibrant communities". And on this occasion, we are happy to agree with every word he says.
