BUDDING York tycoons scooped top business prizes for the city in North Yorkshire's young enterprise awards.

A team from Huntington School took the top award for their innovative calendar entry, while runners-up and winners of the best trade stand award were the girls at Queen Margaret's School, Escrick. Teams from seven York schools, 80 students in all, had their entries judged at the National Railway Museum in York. Entrants had to form and run a company for a full academic year.

York MP Hugh Bayley, who presented the awards, said: "Young people have some of the best ideas, and you are never too young to set up a business - as these young people show. Setting up a project and sticking to it for a year is challenging."

The York winners will now take part in a county competition.
